The Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian recently said that China is ready to restart Joint Oil Exploration Talks with the Philippines at any time. Mr. Xilian has done a fantastic Job in terms of Public Relations (PR) in the Philippines, no doubt he is the best Person for the Job for China.
However, I am Pessimistic that any new Joint Exploration Talks will go anywhere as these were already done under the Administration of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte (PRRD), and they never went anywhere, prompting Digong to finally formally cut it just before he stepped out of Office after three Years of formal Talks.
‘Duterte’s Sacrifice’
And to think that Duterte was very friendly to China, ignoring the goadings of Pro-American Forces within the Philippine Government and his own Political Camp itself. He even stuck out his Neck for China back in around 2021 I think when the Pinklawans tried to pressure him on the 2016 Arbitral Ruling.

Digong resisted all that intense Pressure to the Point that he even had to say that the Ruling was just a piece of Paper, remember that time?
And despite all that Digong did for China, they never agreed to the Philippines’ needs in the South China Sea (SCS) in terms of the Joint Oil Exploration, and even delayed the Loans that they were supposed to give.
The reason why the Joint Exploration Talks didn’t progress was never mentioned, but as some News Articles pointed out, it could have something to do with who will control the Oil Platforms because Philippine Law requires it should be the Philippines, IIRC.
‘Philippines, or the SCS’
Pretty soon China will have to decide which is more important to them, Friendship with the Philippines, or their SCS Claims? Why do they have to extend all the way to the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) anyway, aren’t the waters around their Island Province of Hainan enough for them?

China has to realize that no Philippine Politician will commit Political Suicide for them and surrender claims to Philippine Territories, never mind if the Fake Nationalists and American A$$ Kissers were ready to give away the Philippines’ other Claimed Territories like Sabah to Malaysia and Itu Aba to Taiwan.
If China decides that they want the SCS more, then that’s it, there will truly be no real Friendship with them and the Philippines.
Thanks for the two nice, free Bridges they gave, thanks for all the Vaccines for the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) that they provided when nobody else could provide them at the height of the Pandemic, but just consider those as “Payment” for Duterte’s sacrifices for China.
It remains to be seen if the new President Bong Bong Marcos (PBBM) will be as strong in terms of Leadership and Personality when it comes to Geopolitical Issues, but he may not and he may have other Priorities also.
