The United States refused to review the Mutual Defense Treaty with the Philippines

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana revealed that the United States (US) refused to a review of their Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) with the Philippines. In that is the case then perhaps might as well terminate it, then.

Under this treaty, the Philippines has lost several claimed territories over the decades, like Pugad Island which Vietnam stole from us in the 1970s. And then there’s Mischief Reef in the mid-1990s.

The US never lifted a finger when we lost those territories, and one reason for that is because they refused to recognize our claimed territories in the South China Sea (SCS). They don’t believe those are ours since as Henry Kissinger once said, those territories were not part of the Philippines when Spain transferred our country to them.

China is not claiming the Philippines, just some of our claimed territories in the SCS. And remember that Vietnam occupies more territories in the SCS than China or any other country.
