Philippine Media Companies should not be allowed to be owned and managed by Dual Citizenship Filipinos

One thing you will notice recently is the involvement of Dual Citizenship Filipinos on Philippine Media Companies like in the case of Maria Ressa and Eugenio Lopez III. Ressa is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rappler while Lopez is the Chairman of ABS-CBN Corporation

Both have Citizenships from the Philippines and the United States (US). The problem with this setup is that if these people get into trouble in the Philippines, it gives the foreign Government the excuse to interfere more on their behalf, like in the case of Ressa.

If you look at other South East Asian (SEA) Countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Myanmar, they generally don’t allow Dual Citizenship. Indonesia for example allows Dual Citizenship, but only up to the age of 18. After that, they need to choose which Citizenship they want to have.

Singapore and Malaysia were colonized by the British, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch and yet when they became independent, they did not allow Dual Citizenship in general among their people when they reach the proper legal age.

On the other hand, here in the Philippines we are so lax about Citizenship issues, which makes me wonder if that was manipulated by the Americans so they can continue to exert influence here in our Country.

Remember that Dual Citizenship means that the person had also already officially PLEDGED allegiance to another Country, which means that their loyalty to the Philippines is already in question.

Actually I think if these Dual Citizens are allowed only to keep one Citizenship, I think most will likely CHOOSE the other Citizenship and not the Philippines, especially if their other Citizenship is from a First World Country like the US or a major European Country.

I have nothing personal against people with Dual Citizenships, there are many Dual Citizens who are Followers of this page and approve very much the Presidency of the Rodrigo Duterte, those are the good ones.

But I just don’t like the way the US could have and could still be using some of them as Trojan Horses to protect their interests here in the Philippines.

I think that the next time we change our Constitution, we should seriously consider putting more restrictions on Dual Citizenships, or just remove it altogether like most Countries in SEA.
