An Energy Crisis could be fast approaching for the Philippines

The Manila Times Article on the SMC-ERC Issue

This is serious, President Bong Bong Marcos (PBBM) needs to act on the budding Energy Crisis Issue fast, as detailed in this recent Article on The Manila Times

What is happening is that the Malampaya Oil and Gas Field has reduced its supply of Gas to one of the San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) Power Plants, and the supply of Coal to another of SMC’s Plants has become more expensive because of the ongoing War in Ukraine.

So SMC wants to raise the Prices of Electricity, but the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) isn’t allowing it. If it doesn’t, then we could soon have Brownout Problems. But if does, then the Consumers would be affected due to the higher Prices and thus affect the Popularity of the Government.

But to me this is a “Lose-Lose” Situation for the Government, whether they allow the raising of Energy cost or not, the Consumers will be affected either way. What I think the Government can do is help find ways for SMC and all the other Power Generating Companies in the Philippines find alternative ways to get cheaper Gas and Coal from around the World.

And the Manila Times Article is right, we are now just in the Rainy Season, once the Dry Season starts next Year of 2023 the Power Consumption will rise even more, so it could result in either more Brownouts and more expensive Electricity, or both.
