Some sad news, the Philippine Navy (PN) said that a number of their Modernization Projects have been delayed due to the ongoing Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pandemic. The delays are as follows:
* Instead of October of this year (2020), the delivery of the BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) Frigate has been pushed out to the First Quarter of 2021.
* The Light Armored Systems Upgrade and acquisition of the Squad Rocket Launcher Light (SRLL) of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) has also been delayed, no mention on the new delivery dates.
* The first unit of the Fast Attack and Interdiction Craft – Missile (FAIC-M) were supposed to be delivered “December 2022”, but I think this is a Typographical Error and it actually means “December 2020”. Instead it has been pushed out to the First Quarter of 2021.
- UPDATE (08/11/20-0745H): Inquirer Reporter Frances Mangosing wrote in a Tweet that the delivery of the FAIC-M will be by the First Quarter of 2022, but that the initial delivery date was still December 2020.
* The Post Qualification (PQ) of the two new Landing Docks (LD) has been suspended, but only temporarily. No information on its date of resumption has been provided.
* The acquisition of the Shore-based Anti-Ship Missile System, Shore-based Air Defense Missile System and Submarine has also been delayed.

Just a note on the FAIC-Ms, if they are talking about deliveries of them already then the Contract for them had already been signed some time ago, it just wasn’t publicized. As per previous News Reports, these FAIC-Ms will be the Shaldag V made by Israel Shipyards Ltd.
The Philippine’s Military acquisitions from Israel has been very low key, like with the Hermes 450 and Hermes 900 Drones of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), for example, they weren’t officially publicized in News Reports until they had started delivery.
And even then the details provided were very rare. I don’t why this is so, maybe it is a policy on the side of Israel, but I think more publicity is better because it means more transparency.
Anyway, it seems that the PN will be getting the Shaldag Mk V FAIC-Ms starting the First Quarter of next Year (2021).
