Should the Philippines consider simpler Chinese Aircraft, or more SAMs instead?

This Indian Article is saying that since the Philippine Air Force (PAF) is having problems maintaining Aircraft like its FA-50PH Fighting Eagle, then perhaps it should consider getting even cheaper Fighter Aircraft types like the ones that China is offering.

I don’t think the Article is being sarcastic (or at least I hope not), but I do agree with it. Why not get even simpler Fighter/Interceptor Aircraft like China’s F7BGI for example, which are even cheaper and easier to maintain? Bangladesh recently bought A LOT of them, around three dozen.

But I am not so sure at this point if the PAF is even willing to consider getting Aircraft from China. Well it’s either that, or maybe the PAF can focus on getting instead just more Surface to Air Missile (SAM) Systems which are cheaper and easier to maintain than Aircraft.

That way, they should still be able to have more Units able to defend Philippine Airspace at any given time, even if these SAM Systems have generally less Range compared to Fighter Aircraft or Interceptors.
