The Chief Legal Counsel of the Bong Bong Marcos (BBM) Administration and former Defense Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile (JPE) shared the same Position as Senator Chiz Escudero when he recently said that he is against the Boycott of Chinese Products that was being pushed by the mediocre Senate President and ‘Barkada’ (Close Friend) of BBM, Miguel Zubiri.

JPE says that the Philippines’ Exports to China will be affected, and so will our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who are in China now who are sending back home their Remittances. He also cites the Debts we have with China and the Donations/Grants that China is giving.

Enrile instead is suggesting to just spend more for our Military Forces and Coast Guard. Below is the English Translation of the Article by “Google Translate” that was originally in Filipino:

Enrile on Zubiri's China boycott: 'Don't be rude'

The lawyer of Malacañang is slowing down the proposal to boycott Chinese products in retaliation for the Chinese Coast Guard raining water on the Philippine Coast Guard ship while sailing to Ayungin Shoal recently.

This is the reaction of Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile to Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri's statement that products from China should be boycotted in retaliation for the China Coast Guard's water cannon on the PCG ship.

In his weekly program on the SMNI news channel, Enrile said that one should study what is said especially if one is in a high position because if not done the public will think that it is just the words of a politician.

"It's not possible for us to mess around. We need to study everything we say, our words, especially if we are in high government positions. Otherwise, they will say, it's just words," said Enrile.

The secretary said that from his personal point of view he agrees but he must first think about what effect this will have on the country.

He said the Philippines will lose more if it boycotts China products because the Philippines has exports to China, there are many Filipinos working in China in addition to the government's debt to the said country.

"To me personally, that's ok, but what is China's counter-measure? How much do we export to China? How many OFWs do we have in China? How much do we owe China? How much aid does China give us?,” Enrile asked.

"We must have force, we must spend our force. How many planes do you have, how many water canons do you have, how many coast guards do you have? do you have a jet ski Do you have Trillanes to order?," Enrile added. (Aileen Taliping)”
