JF-17 Block 3 Thunder Aircraft takes first flight

The new Block 3 version of the JF-17 Thunder aircraft made by Pakistan and China took its first flight recently. Among the improvements on the aircraft are:

- Large Holographic Wide-angle Heads Up Display (HUD) similar to the one used on China’s J-20 Stealth fighter aircraft

- Integrated Cockpit Display similar to the one used on China’s J-20 Stealth fighter aircraft

- Infrared Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) used on China’s J-10C, J-16 and J-20 aircraft.

- Expected to be fitted with a Radar that use an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Antenna soon.

JF-17M versus FA-50 Cockpit

The Myanmar Air Force recently released video footages of the JF-17M Thunder aircraft they bought from Pakistan, and in one scene it showed the cockpit of one of their Thunder aircraft.

I just wanted to see that cockpit then side by side with the cockpit of the FA-50 aircraft that we bought.

The FA-50s cockpit is already quite modern considering that we came from the F-5A/B Freedom Fighter and S-211 aircraft, but the JF-17M’s cockpit is even more modern with three impressive looking large screen Color Displays.

Myanmar reportedly ordered 18 of these JF-17Ms. Nigeria is the other export customer of the JF-17, they bought three.
