A recent Article by the One News Publication said that the Philippine Air Force (PAF) had already received its “Air Defense Missiles” and its “Air to Air Missiles” for its FA-50PH Fighting Eagle Aircraft.

But it only mentioned it in passing, it didn’t provide a lot of details. The Article in fact only mentioned it in one Paragraph. To directly quote the Article:

The Air Force also took deliveries of air defense missiles to protect its five new radar sites capable of detecting incoming aircraft 400 miles away while its South Korea FA-50 light fighters have been equipped with air-to-air and air-to-ground tactical missiles”.

‘SpyDer’
I assume that the “Air Defense Missiles” meant the Ground Based Air Defense (GBAD) System of the PAF. The last report about that was in July 2020 when the Jane’s News Publication reported that the Funds for the Project worth Php 2.39 billion (Usd 48.4 million at the Exchange Rate of Usd 1 = Php 49.4) had already been released.

Earlier in January 2019, the Department of National Defense (DND) confirmed that the System will be the SpyDer from Israel.

‘Sidewinder’
As for the Air to Air Missile for the FA-50PH, I assume that these would be the AIM-9L/I-1 Sidewinder that the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said had already been ordered by the PAF.

A Report in April 2020 possibly refers to those Missiles, it said that the German Government had approved the Sale of 72 Missiles from Diehl Defense. The name of the Missiles itself were not mentioned, but Diehl Defense does manufacture the AIM-9L.
