Expert’s Opinions on the Crash of the Bell 429 Helicopter of the PNP

The Business Mirror News Publication interviewed an experienced Private Helicopter Pilot and a Ground Instructor on their opinions about the recent crash of the Bell 429 GlobalRanger Helicopter of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Laguna recently, and here are what they have to say:

* The PNP Pilot should have aborted the takeoff when his visibility turned zero from the dust and ash fall created by his rotors and blocking his view.

* The ground should have been resprayed with water before the takeoff. Earlier during the landing there, the ground was sprayed with water, but by the time the helicopter took off most of the water had already evaporated.

* The landing/takeoff area was not an officially sanctioned landing site.

* The helicopter’s engines likely failed during the takeoff after it ingested large amounts of dust and ash fall.
