SpyDer SAM System has already started delivery to the Philippines?

The "Significant Accomplishments" of the ADC from their 2021 Symposium Brochure
The "Significant Accomplishments" of the ADC from their 2021 Symposium Brochure

I’m wondering why the Air Defense Command (ADC) of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has put the “Delivery and Acceptance of the SpyDer System” as one of their “Significant Accomplishments” in their Brochure at the 2021 PAF Symposium Virtual Exhibit

The Cambridge Dictionary defines an Accomplishment as, “… something done or finished successfully”, so it should be something that has already been done in the past and not something that could happen in the future.

Notice to Proceed for Phl Air Force GBADS released in Sep. 2019

The Notice to Proceed to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and Rafael Advanced Systems for the PAF GBADS
The Notice to Proceed to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and Rafael Advanced Systems for the PAF GBADS

This is a late Post, the Department of National Defense (DND) changed their Website a couple of Months ago and it turns out they uploaded a couple of Files out there as well that I only noticed just now.

Like the Notice To Proceed (NTP) for the Philippine Air Force’s (PAF) Ground Based Air Defense System (GBADS) for example which issued to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and Israeli Company Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd since the transaction is thru a Negotiated Procurement.

Funds for the PAF's SpyDer SAM System released

The Defense publication Jane's reported on the release of funds worth Php 2.39 billion (Usd 48.4 million) for the acquisition of the Philippine Air Force's (PAF) Ground Based Air Defense (GBAD) system.

In January 2019, the Department of National Defense (DND) confirmed that the Surface to Air Missile (SAM) System will be the SpyDer from Israel.

Rafael makes new adjustments on their SpyDer SAM Family

It looks like the Israeli company Rafael updated their family of SpyDer Surface to Air Missile (SAM) systems to add new missile types and made adjustments on existing ones. Remember that the SpyDer is the system that our Air Force is interested in acquiring.

I am not exactly sure about the specific details of the adjustments that they made, but on the surface what they did was add a new version called the “ER” which in between the “SR” and “MR” in terms of range; then they increased the range of the “MR” from 50 km before to 60 km now.

And last is that they added another version called the “LR” which has a longer range than the “MR”. So now there will be four types of SpyDer systems instead of just two:
- SpyDer SR, 20 km range
- SpyDer ER, 40 km range
- SpyDer MR, 60 km range
- SpyDer LR, 80 km range

These adjustments will give buyers options on which system they want to buy in terms of capability and cost. No news yet on what version our Air Force will get, hopefully it will be the longest ranged one.
