Anti-Submarine Weapons for the Del Pilar class Vessels?

It looks like the Philippine Navy (PN) is now planning to install Anti-Submarine Weapons on the Del Pilar class Vessels. As I wrote a couple of months ago on my blog on the BRP Conrado Yap, just put the Yap’s Depth Charge Racks on a Del Pilar class Ship, LOL.

Seriously, Torpedoes would be the main candidate as Anti-Sub weapon for the Del Pilars. But for me, they are kinda expensive, hence this could be an opportunity to get weapons from Russia, like their Anti-Submarine Rocket Launcher, the RBU-6000.

Not sure yet, but I think these are cheaper than Torpedoes and their Launchers. The RBU-6000 have lower range than Torpedoes, but they still offer standoff capability against Subs.

As a bonus they can also be used for Anti-Shore bombardment if necessary, although again their range is a bit limited compared to even the main Oto Melara 76 mm Compact Gun.

Notice to Proceed for the Upgrade of the Del Pilar class Vessels released in November 2019

Another good news about the modernization of the Philippine Navy (PN) is that the Notice to Proceed (NtP) for the upgrade Del Pilar class Vessels was released in November 2019 to the South Korean company Hanhwa Systems Co.

The schedule for the completion of the upgrade though is very long, 3 ½ years so that means all work should be completed by May 2023. The Contract is worth Php 1.3 billion (Usd 25.5 million).

Hanhwa Systems wins the Contract for the Upgrade of the Del Pilar class Ships

The Department of National Defense (DND) just posted the Notice of Award (NOA) to Hanhwa Systems of South Korea for the upgrade of the Del Pilar class ships worth Php 1.3 billion.

The British company Ultra Electronics Ltd actually provided the lowest bid for the project but was disqualified during the Post-Qualification (PQ) due to their inability to comply with the Financial Requirements of the bid, including among other things, the Net Financial Contracting Capacity (NFCC).
