In a piece of News you have all been waiting for, a Smart Bomb launched from an FA-50PH Fighting Eagle Aircraft of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has killed a number of New People’s Army (NPA) Terrorist Animals in Mindanao on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020.
The bodies of 3 NPA Animals were recovered at the Bomb Site. The Report said that a “GPS-guided Smart Bomb” was used in the Incident, but didn’t say specifically which model was used.
‘JDAM’
The FA-50PH is qualified to use the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) which is uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) Guidance System, and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) Organization said we acquired a number of those back in 2011.
If they are still around or if additional Units had been acquired unannounced then that is one Candidate.
‘GBU-49’
Another Candidate is the GBU-49 Enhanced Paveway II which also uses GPS Guidance (aside from Laser and Inertial Navigation System (INS)), and PAF was confirmed trying to integrate it to the FA-50PH around the middle of this Year (2020).
The 15th Strike Wing confirmed having acquired some recently, but the FA-50PH belongs to the 5th Fighter Wing. If they had also acquired the GBU-49 recently then it could be it.
'Paveway IV'
And yet another possibility is the Paveway IV which, like the Paveway II uses multiple Guidance Systems including GPS.
The Defense Publication Jane's lists the Philippines as being a User of in a Congressional Document released this Year (2020).
