The Philippine Navy’s AW159 Helicopters are Operational, will resume Training with Foreign Instructors after Covid-19 Travel Ban is lifted

The Philippine Navy (PN) said that their AW159 Wildcat Helicopters are now Operational, but Mission Essential and Operational Training with Foreign Flight Instructors will resume when the Travel Ban due to the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pandemic is lifted. 

The Aircrew of the AW159 are maintaining their proficiency with the Aircraft thru weekly General Handling Flight Sorties. Regular Maintenance Activities are also being done as per the Maintenance Manual.

The PN’s AW159 Wildcat Helicopters to be Operational by November 2020

The Philippine Navy’s (PN) AW159 Wildcat Helicopters will be fully operational only by November of this year (2020). They were commissioned into service in June 2019, hence almost 1 ½ years before becoming operational.

But by that time, the Ships they are going to serve in, the Jose Rizal class Frigates would have been delivered already if there is no slip in the schedule.

Earlier news reports said that the BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) Frigate is scheduled to be delivered by April or May 2020 while the BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) Frigate will be delivered by September or October 2020.
