Philippine Army considering use of MD-500 and UH-1H Helicopters from South Korea

There is a Report from South Korea that the Philippine Army (PA) is considering the use of MD-500 Defender and UH-1H Huey Helicopters that South Korea has retired. These will likely be refurbished before use, just like the used AH-1 Cobra Helicopters that Jordan donated to the Philippine Air Force (PAF)

The Author of the Article though says that this is currently under review and not final yet. I am posting below the English Translation of the Article by Google Translate:

Philippine Army set to receive 4 UH-60 Black Hawk and 4 AH-1 Cobra Helicopters from the US - Sen. Tolentino

During a Hearing of the Commission on Appointments (CA), Senator Francis Tolentino said that the Philippine Army’s (PA) Aviation Regiment is set to receive 4 UH-60 Black Hawk and 4 AH-1 Cobra Helicopters from the United States (US)

It was reported in the Press early this Year in February 2020 that the US was offering the second hand Units of the Black Hawk and Cobra Helicopters to the PA, and it seems that the PA has now accepted them.

The aircraft will be provided for free, but the Philippines still needs to spend for the Repairs, Shipment, Armaments and Avionics of the Aircraft.

The US is offering secondhand Aircraft to the Philippine Army

The United States (US) is reportedly offering a number of secondhand fixed and rotary winged aircraft to the Philippine Army (PA) as part of its Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program.

These aircraft are broken down as follows:
- 4 UH-60 Black Hawk Combat Utility Helicopters
- 4 AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopters
- 5 C-12 Huron Transport aircraft

Some PA Personnel will go to the US next month (March 2020) to inspect these aircraft, and another batch will follow in April 2020 to further inspect the aircraft. The aircraft will be provided for free but the Philippines needs to spend for Repairs, Shipment, Armaments and Avionics.

A C-12 aircraft will reportedly be transferred to the Philippine Navy (PN).

Quite a coincidence though that we suddenly have all these talk of what the US is giving us just when President Rodrigo Duterte is about to terminate the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA). Some Politicians have already spoken out that termination of the VFA will make it harder for the US to justify giving more EDA like these to the Philippines.
