April 29, 2026: Vietnam begins construction of the Subway Extension of their Metro Line 2, to be completed by 2030, ahead of Philippines’ Subway
Vietnam has started construction of the fully automated, Usd 1.39 billion Subway Line Extension of their Metro Line 2 and is targeting its completion by 2030. The new Line will be 6 kilometers long and will be called the "Ben Thanh-Thu Tiem Line".
The Line will be entirely underground and will be fully automated, using the GoA4 Standard Technology which is the highest Level of Train Automation in the World right now and is used in France, Australia and China.
This Subway Extension will eventually link with their Bullet Train Line which is also now under construction, and will also link with the Long Thanh International Airport. If this Subway Line is completed and operational by 2030, it will be ahead of the Philippines' Subway Line which is expected to be in operation by 2032.
April 15, 2026: Vietnam to build Usd 4.9 billion Mega Port, to start Operations by 2030, will eventually have 4x the Capacity of Manila’s Ports
Vietnam is now planning to build a brand new and modern Sea Port at the Cost of Usd 4.9 billion which will be called the Can Gio Transshipment Port, and the Groundbreaking or start of Construction is going to be at the End of this Month.
The new Port will cover an Area of 571 hectares located on the Go Con Cho Islet at the Mouth of the Cai Mep River, and will have a Quay or Port that is 7.5 km long. The First Phase will have two to four Berths with a total Capacity of 4.8 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) Units per Year, or 4.8 million 20-foot Containers annually.
This is about the same as the total current Capacity of the three Ports in Manila, but of course Vietnam's will be brand new and modern, and will expand to around almost four times more at 16.9 million TEUs per Year by 2047.
At its full Design Capacity, the Mega Port will generate Income of up to Usd 1.3 to 1.5 billion per Year and generate up to 6,000 to 8,000 Direct Jobs, along with tens of thousands of Indirect ones.
April 13, 2026: Vietnam begins construction of its first High Speed Railway Line, the second or third in South East Asia, to be completed in 2028
Vietnam recently began construction of their first High Speed Railway (HSR) Line, which will be a 120 kilometer Line which will pass through Cities of Hanoi and Hai Phong and the Provinces of Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh.
The Line will be a Double-track, Standard-gauge and Electrified which will support Trains that can run at a speed of up to 350 kilometers per Hour. The total cost of the Project is at Usd 5.87 billion and is targeted for completion in 2028.
Once completed, the Line will cut down the Travel time from Hanoi to the Province of Quang Ninh from the previous 2 to 2.5 hours down to only 25 to 30 minutes. The Line will either be the second or third in South East Asia (SEA) as Thailand is also building their own HSR Line.
The first HSR Line in SEA is of course the Jakarta-Bandung Line in Indonesia which was completed in 2023 with funding and construction help from China.
March 24, 2026: Vietnam moves closer to building and operating the 1st Nuclear Power Plant in SEA, theirs will have a Capacity of 2.4 GW
Vietnam recently signed an Intergovernmental Agreement with Russia for the construction of a 2.4 GW Nuclear Power Plant. The Plant will be called the Ninh Thuan 1 and will use two VVER-1200 Nuclear Reactors from Russia.
Several Countries in South East Asia (SEA) have constructed and operated Nuclear Reactors, but these are being used mainly for Research only, none of them have established an actual, commercial, working Nuclear Power Plant yet.
Vietnam is reportedly targeting completion of the Ninh Thuan Plant by 2030, so I expect the Contract signing and construction to begin relatively soon. And if they are successful in building and operating this Plant, then they will be the first in SEA to do so.
And with such a high capacity at 2.4 GW, or 2.4 billion Watts of Power.
