K136 Kooryong MLRS Acquisition Update – October 4, 2019

Here are some updates on the acquisition of the K136 Kooryong Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) from South Korea:

* Two secondhand Batteries were donated by South Korea to the Philippines in October 2018. These will be assigned to the Philippine Army (PA).

* The Department of National Defense (DND) is still planning how to get the MLRS from South Korea as the Philippines will shoulder the cost of the transfer.

* The Training for the use of the system has yet to start.

There are some changes in this new update compared to the news report that came out in August 2019 about the acquisition of the K136 Kooryong MLRS.

Back then it was reported that four batteries are going to be acquired with three going to the PA and one going to the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC).

However, now only two batteries are mentioned with no mention of the additional battery for the PA nor of one going to the PMC. Not sure what happened there, and if those two other batteries are still going to push thru or not.

Has the Philippine Army has created its first Rocket Unit?

Not sure if this is legit since no official announcement has been made in public yet, but it looks like the Philippine Army (PA) could have created its first Rocket unit, the “1st Multiple Launch Rocket System "Longe Mortiferum" Battery”. Nice unit logo though, beautiful.

The unit's motto, "Longe Mortiferum" is Latin and its English translation as per Google Translate is "Far More Deadly".
