Suspicious Timing and Nature of the release of Information of the BRP Conrado Yap Incident

I just found the timing of the release of the information about the incident at Rizal Reef (also known as Commodore Reef) of the BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) Corvette of the Philippine Navy (PN) with the Liupanshui (514) Corvette of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) to be a bit suspicious.

The incident happened in February 2020, and yet it was only released two months later in April 2020. Instead of releasing it right away, it was as if they were saving to release it at a time where it will do most damage as a Propaganda against China.

The nature of the release of information was also very suspicious, it was released by two anonymous Officials of the Philippine Government to the Associated Press (AP). Only after the release made news did the Philippine Government officially confirmed it.

About the timing of the release, it was made only after China provided so many Donations to the Philippines for weeks to help fight the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak. All the goodwill generated in those weeks were then blunted by the release of an incident that happened months earlier.

The release also happened days before the “Iisang Dagat” Music Video by Imelda Papin and the Chinese Government was released to the public. I don’t think that Music Video happened overnight, it probably took some time to produce and yet because of the BRP Yap incident, that video ended up taking a lot of hate.

Now I do not know who those two anonymous Philippine Government Officials are, and it is unlikely that AP will reveal who they are, but it’s possible those officials are working with Americans who seem to be intent on having the Philippines fight a Proxy War against China.

The formula seems simple: Ignore all the other Countries claiming Philippine Territory also like Vietnam, Malaysia and Taiwan and just focus on China, the United States (US) main rival right now.

Anyway, this incident for me seems to show up to what level of Malice and Intrigue that could be out there to promote Pro-American interests in the Philippines by certain groups.

Use of the Phrase “Radar Gun” for Propaganda Purposes?

When news about the encounter at Rizal Reef last February 2020 was first leaked out by anonymous sources from the Philippine Government to the Press recently, I found it a bit strange that the Press was using the phrase “Radar Gun” to describe the Fire Control Radar (FCR) that the Liupanshiu (514) Corvette of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) aimed at the BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) Corvette of the Philippine Navy (PN).

But I just dismissed it then as maybe they just wasn’t too familiar about the equipment that was used. Take note that I never saw the any of the local news organization show a picture of what an FCR really looks like.

However, the phrase “Radar Gun” could’ve been carefully chosen by the anonymous Philippine Government Officials who were behind that leak to allow the Press to conveniently drop “Radar” and just use the word “Gun” like what the Inquirer posted in the Infographic. And I have seen other local news organizations also do the exact same thing also.

People who are not too familiar with the incident or the equipment used now would just see the word “Gun” and think that a weapon was really aimed at the BRP Yap, which of course would then heighten their anxiety.

The equipment used was a “Fire Control Radar”, so why did they not use it instead of “Radar Gun”? It could be because the phrase “Fire Control Radar” have much less Propaganda impact than the word “Gun” when used to describe the incident, hence the reason for doing so.

Now as I mentioned before, the use of FCR for intimidation has been used all over the world, including Asia where China used it against Japan, South Korea used it against Japan, Japan used it against China, etc.

The BRP Conrado Yap's Fire Control Radar

Note that the BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) Corvette of the Philippine Navy (PN) does have a Fire Control Radar (FCR) also, the WM-28, but it is enclosed inside an Egg shaped Structure so Observers won’t be able to see it being pointed at them, unlike the Type 347 FCR on the Liupanshui (514) Corvette of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) it had an encounter with

BRP Conrado Yap detects American Submarine while on Patrol in Palawan

The Philippine Navy (PN) has announced that after a very long time, a vessel of theirs was again able to detect a Submarine of another Country. The BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) Corvette was able to detect an American Submarine while on routine Patrol off the waters of Palawan.

Note that the Americans don’t use conventionally powered Submarines anymore, they are all Nuclear powered, and these are potentially not as quiet as conventional Submarines since their Nuclear Reactor System have more moving parts.

And perhaps the Sub also may have been overconfident and not operating at its stealthiest setting in our waters since no PN ship has Submarine Detection capability for a long, long time.

Notice also that the PN was not only able to detect a Sub, but they were also able to identify its Nationality based on its Acoustic Signature.

BRP Conrado Yap replaced with Tarlac class LD in AFP Exercise

The BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) Corvette of the Philippine Navy (PN) will not be joining the Inter-Service “DAGIT-PA 03-19” Exercise of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, she will instead be replaced with one of the Tarlac class Landing Docks (LD). No reason given yet for the change.

BRP Conrado Yap joins the AFP Inter-Service Exercise

The newly acquired BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) Corvette of the Philippine Navy (PN) will be joining the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP)DAGIT-PA 03-2019” Inter-Service Exercise. This marks the first time that the ship will join a major Exercise with the PN after its acquisition from South Korea.

I hope they post nice pictures and videos of the exercise, though. One reason I post a lot of stuff from Joint Exercises with the U.S. Armed Forces is because they have a fantastic website for pictures and videos, which is the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS).

Maybe the AFP can do the same also, but it will require them to allocate some manpower and other resources to do that. But then again it will be worth it in terms of disseminating information to the Public.
