Germany approves the sale of 72 Diehl Defense Missiles to the Philippines

Interesting news from the Defense Aerospace website (also reported by the Military Leak website so far) saying that the German Government has approve the sale of 72 missiles from Diehl Defense to the Philippines.

No other details were provided, and I am not sure what these missiles really are. The only missiles I know that we are buying from Diehl Defense are the AIM-9L/I-1 Sidewinder missiles, as per the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) only 65 out of the 130 missiles ordered has been delivered.

So the balance of 65 missiles are reportedly still for delivery, but the numbers cited above is 72, so the numbers don’t match. The Military Leak website mentioned Diehl Defense’s offer of the IRIS-T missiles for the Ground Based Air Defense Systems (GBADS) of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the Philippine Army (PA), but the Government had already announced before that we are getting the SpyDer system GBADS.

Anyway I hope more details of this transaction will come out from the Press/Governments/Manufacturers soon.
