A week or so ago an English language Arab website reported that the Turkish designed and manufactured Helicopter Engine TS1400 was only going to be ready by 2025, but a Turkish website has reported that they will in fact be ready much sooner, by the end of 2020.
If this is the case then this is somewhat of a good news for the T129 ATAK Helicopter as they won’t necessarily have to rely anymore on the American designed CTS800 Engine which requires the United States’ (US) permission to export.
On the other hand, the TS1400 is only the first designed and manufactured helicopter engine by Turkey, and thus it still doesn’t have as much Operational Record of reliability and durability as the CTS800.
But then again, the Turkish manufacturer Tusas Engine Industries (TEI) has had a pretty good history of manufacturing aircraft engines hence there is a decent chance that the TS1400 will work out eventually well in the end.
