OUR SEA NEIGHBORS: Indonesia starts Phase 3 Trials of China’s CoronaVac Vaccine

Indonesia, who has a Territorial Dispute with China over the Natuna Islands, is one of the few Countries in the World chosen to take part in the Phase 3 Clinical Trials of China’s Vaccine for the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) called the “CoronaVac”.

The Trials will involve 1,620 Indonesian Volunteers and will last around 6 Months. Even if a Vaccine is approved, a Country still needs to do its own local Clinical Trials, but these Phase 3 Trials could serve as their local Clinical Trials also for Indonesia as I understand it, meaning they will be able to use the Vaccine to the Public much sooner than other Countries.

Indonesia will also be producing the Vaccine locally. If the Phase 3 Trial is successful, they could start using the CoronaVac for their Citizens around maybe March 2021. Perhaps China could also allow the Philippines to produce the CoronaVac.

Despite their Territorial Dispute, though, Indonesia has pretty close ties to China. They get a lot of Investments from them, a lot more than us.

Perhaps the Philippines could arrange a similar setup with Russia’s “Sputnik V” Vaccine, Russia could allow the Philippines to participate in its Phase 3 Clinical Trials. That way the Philippines can see for itself if the Sputnik V is really effective and safe.

And I assume that such a participation will also serve as the Local Clinical Trials for the Sputnik V also, so if it passes, then we will be able to issue that Vaccine to the Public than most other Countries.
