The Indian Express' recent Headline on India and the US' CAATSA Law |
This is what I was talking about, up to now, the Americans are still arguing amongst themselves whether to impose Sanctions on India for buying S-400 Triumf Surface to Air Missiles (SAM) from Russia based on their Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) Law.
India signed the Contract worth Usd 5 billion for 5 S-400 Systems back in October 2018 when the CAATSA Law was already in effect.
However, as I posted recently also, Vietnam bought Yak-130 Mitten Aircraft from Russia back in 2019 and deliveries of these had already started, and yet there is no talk from the US about sanctioning them also for CAATSA.
Also China signed a Contract to buy 36 Ka-52K Katran Helicopters for Usd 20 million each from Russia in September 2021, but again, almost or outright no noise from the US about sanctioning China for CAATSA also.
As far as I know and can tell, there is no specific exemption for Vietnam, China or any other Country to be exempt from the CAATSA Law, any Country doing “significant” deals with Russia are supposed to be sanctioned also.
If so, then why is the US exempting Countries like China and Vietnam from the Law, but going after other Countries like India and Turkey? That is the big question which only the Americans can answer, but will likely not as it will result in another embarassment to them.
They will probably pretend its not happening, and hope that People will forget about this hypocrisy.
