Sen. Marcos calls out the US for secretly trying to store hazardous Fuel in Subic which is not an EDCA Site

Senator Imee Marcos recently expressed numerous concerns about the planned storage of 39 million gallons of Fuel by the United States Navy (USN) in Subic, Zambales. The Fuel was loaded into the Oil Tanker named "Yosemite Trader" last December 20, 2023 in Hawaii which then reached Philippine Territory just this January 9, 2024. 

First of all, Sen. Marcos highlighted why the US and Philippine Governments were SILENT about the Transaction, no News have been made about it, it was only after she revealed the Plan that the Public got to know about it. It seems to me that both Governments had planned to keep it a Secret, until it was uncovered. 

Second, Sen. Marcos said that Fuel was being stored in Subic which is NOT among the Military Bases in the Philippines that were given to the US under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), so she questioned why they are going to be stored there in the first Place. 

Third, these Fuel also are an ENVIRONMENTAL and HEALTH HAZARD, the Area where they were previously stored at Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility in Hawaii LEAKED several times already, causing Environmental Damage. 

That Facility leaked TWICE back in 2021, with the second in November of that Year releasing 30,000 gallons of Fuel and contaminating the Drinking Water in Oahu and sickening thousands of Hawaiians. 

That Facility is now in the process of being closed permanently by 2027, and it seems that the US has chosen Subic to be one of the Areas to transfer the Fuel to even if it was not under their Control under EDCA. 

'Parting Shot'

So the US is acting like it owns the Philippines again, secretly trying to transfer Hazardous Material to a Military Base that was NOT even given to them under the EDCA Agreement. Kudos again to Sen. Marcos for championing Causes like these, if it were not for her these Shenanigans by the US would not have been revealed.
