The current Secretary of Commerce of the United States (US) Gina Raimondo boasted recently that US Companies are set to announce their Plan to invest around Usd 1 billion in the Philippines soon. The Investments are supposed to be in the Fields of Solar Energy, Electric Vehicles (EV) and Digitization.
Well and good, then. However, this amount pales in comparison to what the US has been investing in other South East Asian (SEA) Countries, like in Malaysia, for example, when in August of last Year of 2023, US Companies were reportedly set to invest around Usd 100 billion until 2025.
This was followed up later when in November of that same Year in 2023, the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim said that his Country was able to get around Usd 13 billion worth of Investment Pledges during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum that was held in the US.
In that very same Forum, Indonesian President Joko Widodo himself announced that the US Company ExxonMobil was going to invest Usd 15 billion in his own Country, and that is just from one US Company.
On the other hand, Bong Bong Marcos (BBM) was only able to get Usd 672 million worth of Pledges from the US during that APEC Forum.
What's even funnier is that there are absolutely no US Military Bases in either Indonesia or Malaysia, and neither do either Countries have any Defense Treaties with the US. On the other hand, the US already has nine Military Bases in the Philippines, with likely even more to come which they are not paying any rent for, by the way.
The Philippines also has a Defense Treaty with the US but it is getting just "Peanuts" in Terms of Investments from them compared to Indonesia or Malaysia.
As one of my Page's Followers once said, "Act like a Doormat and you will be treated like one", and this illustrates best how the Philippines is acting towards the US, and how the US treats the Philippines.
