If this attack happened to the Philippines, people would just say, “Pfft, if they had MIM-104 Patriot Surface to Air Missiles (SAM), this wouldn’t have happened”. But Saudi Arabia does have the very expensive Patriot SAMs, in fact they are one of the most well-funded and well-equipped armed forces in the world, thanks to their wealth derived from Oil.
And yet despite that the Houthi/Iranian Drones/Cruise Missiles still got thru their Air Defense Systems. Would the Russian S-400 done any better? Maybe, but we won’t know for sure until they are tested in battle also as much as the Patriot SAMs.

We work with what we know, and that is one of the world’s most sophisticated SAM systems were unable to stop the Drones/Cruise Missiles.
If this remains true then this will have serious consequences for the Philippines for attack and defense. For attack, it means that if we do get Submarines with Land Attack Cruise Missile capability, then those missiles will still have a good chance of hitting their targets even against an opponent with sophisticated missile defenses.
However, the same is true against us also, meaning that even if we have SAMs like the SpyDer system, there is no assurance that it will be able to intercept all or some of the Cruise Missiles launched against us.
The SpyDer of course is a different system made by a different country than the Patriot, but it is has disadvantages also compared to the Patriot, like its missiles don’t have as much range as the Patriot, for example.
And some countries like China have a lot of different types of Cruise Missiles, easily running into the hundreds if not even thousands.
