Again this is something which our local Press will not report because it goes up against their biased Pro-American, Pro-Opposition and Anti-China narrative which they are cultivating.
Indonesian President Jokowi Widodo and his government is in fact playing down the supposed standoff, as per he himself said, and I quote: “I asked the Indonesian military commander, are there foreign ships entering Indonesian territorial sea? As it turns out, none”.
One thing that the local Press won’t say is the fact that Indonesia’s dispute with China is NOT really about the occupation of the Natuna Islands itself, but the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) around it.
Even more damning is what Jokowi’s Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said, which I quote: “Let me be clear that the EEZ has to do with the economy and not sovereignty - these are two very different beasts”.
This means that the Indonesian government does NOT consider the issue of the EEZ as a “Sovereignty” issue, unlike what the Opposition, the Press and former President Benigno Aquino Jr.’s government has been saying about the Philippines’ EEZ in the South China Sea (SCS).
