U.S. State Department approved Potential Sale of AH-1Z Viper Attack Helicopters to the Philippines

The United States' (US) State Department has approved the potential sale of AH-1Z Viper and/or AH-64E Apache Attack Helicopters to the Philippines.

The package for the potential Viper sale includes the following:
- 6 units
- Total price of Usd 450 million for 6 units or Usd 75 million each
- 14 General Electric T700-401C Engines
- 7 Honeywell Embedded Global Positioning Systems/Inertial Navigation Systems with Precise Positioning Service
- 6 AGM-114 Hellfire II Missiles
- 26 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) Kits
- 2 AIM-9M Sidewinder Training Missiles
- 5,000 rounds of 20mm Semi-Armor Piercing High Explosive Incendiary (SAPHEI) ammunition

The package is a big expensive, to illustrate for example, the brand-new FA-50PH Fighting Eagle aircraft we bought were only at Usd 35 million.

If we lower the number of weapons bought along with the aircraft, then that will drive the price down, but of course it will mean that the Attack Helicopters won’t have as much advanced weapons to use also.

Based on the price, it seems that these will be brand-new units.
