I just found it a bit funny that the United States (US) went out and issued a Statement claiming to uphold the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) by conducting the 2020 Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) when in fact they aren’t even a Signatory of it.
Since the early 1980s, the US Lawmakers have consistently opposed the US signing the Law.
The US’ latest Statement on UNCLOS and RIMPAC are as follows: “Like-minded Nations come together in RIMPAC in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific where all Nations enjoy unfettered access to the Seas and Airways in accordance with International Law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) upon which all nations' Economies depend - Adm. John C. Aquilino, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet”.
What’s worse is that by releasing Statements like these, it makes the US look like they are a Signatory of UNCLOS. If they are going to talk about it all, they should at least tell their official stance about the Law.
Otherwise it is all just Hypocrisy. Why say they uphold a Law they don’t even officially approve of, if not just for Propaganda?
