Philippine Air Force (PAF) Chief Lt. Gen. Allen Paredes told the House of Representatives during a Budget Hearing recently that they are seeking Funds to acquire 5 C-130J Super Hercules Transport Aircraft and recover 10 UH-1 Huey Helicopters.
Paredes said that the President Rodrigo Duterte had approved the acquisition of the C-130J Aircraft last May 2020, but that the Project is one of the unfunded Projects for 2021.
The 5 C-130Js would be able to rapidly transport an entire Battalion of Soldiers and would be useful in transporting Personnel, Equipment and Supplies during Natural Disasters.
The 5 planes would cost a total of Php 37 billion (or Usd 755 million at the Exchange Rate of Usd 1 = Php 49) or Php 7.4 billion (Usd 151 million) each. These Aircraft will likely be Brand New based on this cost estimate.
The PAF hopes to get Php 5.5 billion (Usd 112 million) as 15% Downpayment for these Aircraft in 2021. As of now only 2 of the C-130 Aircraft in the PAF's Inventory are operational, the other 2 are undergoing Scheduled Maintenance in Cebu and Portugal.
Paredes said they are also planning to recover into Active Service 10 UH-1 Helicopters for a total cost of Php 1.8 billion (Usd 36.7 million) or Php 180 million (Usd 3.7 million) each.
