During a Town Hall Meeting hosted by CNN recently, new United States (US) President Joe Biden says that he understand China’s right to handle its own Internal Affairs.
Biden starts off on the Topic by saying that he understood China’s History wherein they were exploited by Foreigners before when they weren’t united as a Country, so he says he understood Xi Jinping’s need for tight control to unite China.
He then says he is not going to speak out how China handles issues like Hong Kong, the Uighurs, etc., and that each Country has their own Cultural Norms that their Leaders are expected to follow.
Here is a Transcript of what Biden said word for word: “I said, look -- Chinese Leaders, if you know anything about Chinese history, it has always been the time China when has been victimized by the outer world is when they haven't been unified at home.
So, the central -- to vastly overstate it, the central principle of Xi Jinping is that there must be a united, tightly controlled China. And he uses his rationale for the things he does based on that.
I point out to him, no American president can be sustained as a President if he doesn't reflect the values of the United States. And so the idea I'm not going to speak out against what he's doing in Hong Kong, what he's doing with the Uyghurs in western mountains of China, and Taiwan, trying to end the One-China policy by making it forceful, I said -- by the way, he said he gets it.
Culturally, there are different norms that each country and their leaders are expected to follow.”
Because of Biden’s Stance, I expect the Dilawans to now also soften their attacks on China on the issue of Hong Kong in accordance to what their new Master want. Either that or they will end up criticizing China on the Hong Kong issue on their own without the US’ lead.
