Some updates from the Philippine Navy (PN) on their planned acquisition of Submarines:

* If not for the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pandemic, the signing of the Contract for the Submarines would’ve likely occurred either during the second half of 2021 or first half of 2022.

* The PN’s budget for the Submarine Acquisition Program is set at Php 70 billion, or around Usd 1.46 billion assuming an Exchange Rate of Usd 1 = Php 48.

* The budget is for 2 Submarines, an Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Package and development of some Ports.

* Countries that are (still) offering their Submarines to the Philippines are France, South Korea, India and Turkey.

* Singapore is reportedly interested in selling their older Submarines to the Philippines, but no formal offer has been made yet.

* The PN believes that Submarines will provide credible deterrence because other Naval Ships will not be able to know where our Submarines are.
