Even more Pohang Corvettes for the Philippine Navy?

I took a screenshot and highlighted below Adm. Empedrad’s statement to the Inquirer. As per him, there is already an initial commitment from South Korea to provide two additional Pohang class Corvettes aside from the BRP Conrado Yap

What is even more intriguing is his next statement where he says that he asked for even more Pohangs aside from the additional two, and that South Korea’s response was “positive”. So if all these comes into fruition, then it will be raining South Korean ships for the Philippine Navy (PN)

Consider this:
- One former Pohang Corvette in the BRP Conrado Yap delivered;
- Two Jose Rizal class Frigates for delivery in 2020;
- Two Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Corvettes for Contract signing;
- Two more Pohang Corvettes reportedly committed;
- At least one more Pohang Corvette could be provided

So that’s three South Korean ships that have either arrived or for delivery; Plus an additional two more in the pipeline and a possible three more to be donated. That means a total of eight or nine ships for the PN all in all.
