SEA Countries greatly benefiting from Economic Trade with China, except the Philippines

Powered by RedCircle

A recent Article on the South China Morning Post (SCMP) writes about how while the rest of South East Asia (SEA) is benefiting immensely from a healthy Economic Trade with China, the Philippines is being left out of it, one of the few Countries in SEA to be so. Here is a Summary of that Article:

* The Griffith Asia Institute in Australia recently released a Report saying that China's Construction and non-Financial Investments in the Philippines dropped by an incredible 100% last Year of 2023, mainly because of the ongoing Tensions due to Territorial Disputes in the South China Sea (SCS)

The only other SEA Country with a similar drop in such Chinese Investments is Myanmar where a Civil War is currently ongoing there.

* Chinese Finance and Supply Chains are transforming the Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, Mineral Processing and Electric Vehicle (EV) Fields of other SEA Countries, but the Philippines is obviously now being left out of these Transformations.

* The Philippines lost funding from China for three major Railway Projects, and Chinese Tourist Arrivals into the Country dropped from a record-high of 1.7 million in 2019 to only 264,000 in 2023.

* The Chinese Company "BYD Company Limited" is investing Usd 1.3 billion to produce EVs in Indonesia, and another Chinese Company, "Contemporary Amperex Technology Company Limited (CATL)" is also investing in Indonesia to process Nickel and produce EV Batteries. BYD also has a Factory in Vietnam that makes Electronic Devices and Parts.

* Other SEA Countries are slowly taking away the Philippines' share of the Market of Fruit exports to China. Vietnam and Cambodia for Example are increasing their exports of Bananas while Thailand and Malaysia are increasing their export of Pineapples to China.

* Three major Chinese Carmakers, BYD, "SAIC Motor Corporation Limited" and "Great Wall Motor Company Limited (GWM)" are manufacturing EVs in Thailand, transforming that Country into a major EV Hub that serves the entire SEA Region.

* The Vietnamese Company "Vinfast Auto Limited" has entered into a Strategic Partnership with the Chinese Companies CATL and "Gotion High Tech" to provide Batteries for their EVs.

* Chinese Solar Panel Manufacturers have been moving to Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, helping boost the transition to Clean Energy in those Countries.

* Chinese-built Dams is helping Laos become the "Battery of SEA" as they are now supplying Hydro-electric Power to other SEA Countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore
