More Good News for the People of Davao as aside from the Bucana Bridge or Davao River Bridge that China is donating to them, the long awaited and long anticipated Samal Island-Davao City (SIDC) Connector Bridge has now also started construction.
This is as per the latest Inspection Report of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as published on their Facebook Page. The DPWH didn't provide as much important Details about the Project, probably because the current President Bong Bong Marcos (PBBM) has not been very friendly to China, but they did say that as of now, the Project is around 3.5% complete.
However, a Post by the DPWH back in January 2021 when the Contract was signed did provide more Details about the Project. It is worth Php 19.32 billion, or approximately Usd 400 million based on the Exchange Rate back then.
The Bridge will have four Lanes, have a total length of 3.98 km and will reduce the Travel Time from Davao City to Samal to only five minutes. The construction will reportedly take around 54 Months or four and a half Years to complete, so the tentative Completion Date for it based on that will be late 2028.
The Bridge will be funded thru a Loan from China, and the Chinese Company “China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC)” will be the Main Contractor for its construction. Once completed, it is expected to significantly help drive the Development and Tourism of both Cities.
So not just one, but two Chinese Bridges will now be helping Davao City’s Progress in the near Future. On a Personal Note, based on the Pictures, it seems that where they are building the Bridge is where the Ferry Boat from Davao City to the Beach Resort Paradise Island used to dock.
I know because I took that Ferry Boat several times before. Now that Ferry ride is likely to have been transferred to another Place.
