The Stars and Stripes Article about the Filipino Workers in Diego Island |
Hundreds of Filipino Workers working in the AMERICAN Base of Camp Thunder Cove in the Island of Diego Garcia are unable to leave it because of a Pay Dispute with their AMERICAN Employer.
The Philippine Government wants the American Company Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR) to pay their Filipino Workers the LEGAL Minimum Wage Rate as per United States (US) Law, but the Filipino Workers say that the American Company is pressuring them instead to sign a Contract Extension based on the current Pay Rate.
Now the Workers are worried that if they leave without signing that Contract Extension, then they would not be able to go back to the Base with their Jobs and replaced by Workers of other Nationalities.
So is this how our beloved American "Allies" treats us? First they make our Navy pay for using the Philippines' own Lands in Subic, and now they want to keep paying Filipino Workers below the Minimum Wage as required by their own Laws?
'Ano sasabihin ng mga Pilipinong Aso ng Amerika, na di bale na lang, marami naman daw silang "Training" sa atin, dun na lang ibabawi? (What will the Filipino Dogs of the Americans say, that never mind because they give us a lot of "Training", so it will be compensated there instead?), LOL.
