Philippines China Bilateral Meeting Summary, November 17, 2022

Below is a Summary of the Bilateral Meeting between the Philippines and China in Thailand last November 17, 2022: 

*  President Bong Bong Marcos (PBBM) thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for China’s donation of 20,000 tons of Fertilizers to the Philippines. He also cited how China was the first Country to donate Corona Virus 2019 (Covid-19) Vaccines to the Philippines

*  Both leaders agreed to consider cooperating on more Infrastructure Projects in the Philippines. President Xi thanked PBBM for personally attending the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Davao-Samal Bridge Project which is being funded by China

* President Xi said that China was open to increasing the importation of quality Agricultural Products from the Philippines, including the planned entry of Philippine Durian Fruits to the Chinese Market

*  The two Leaders agreed that the Maritime Issues between the two Countries do not define the Totality of both Countries’ Relations. They also supported the early conclusion of the Code of Conduct (COC) on the South China Sea (SCS)

PBBM specifically said during the Meeting, “Our Foreign Policy refuses to fall into the Trap of a Cold War Mindset. Ours is an Independent Foreign Policy guided by our National Interest and Commitment to Peace”.
