A Headline of the China Coast Guard "Laser" Incident |
So the News this Morning was filled of Reports about how a China Coast Guard (CCG) Vessel with Bow Number 5205 used a “Laser” on the BRP Malapascua (MRRV-4403) Vessel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The “Laser” could be what’s called as a “Laser Dazzler”, of which Wikipedia has the best Description so far in the Internet in that it says it is, “A non-Lethal Weapon designed to use intense directed radiation to temporarily disorient its Target with Flash Blindness”. Note that the Words to remember here are “Non-Lethal” and “Temporary”.
This is becoming increasingly used by Military and Law Enforcement Forces around the World. Now the South China Sea (SCS) is a DISPUTED Area, meaning we are not the only ones claiming to Areas and Territories there but other Countries also, that is why Encounters between Forces are common.
What struck me about the use of these Lasers against our PCG is it came only NOW, AFTER the fact that the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) was expanded by President Bong Bong Marcos (PBBM).
So the Big Question for me is … Is this an Indirect Response, maybe even an INDIRECT WARNING by China to PBBM after he reactivated, accelerated and then expanded EDCA? Remember that this reportedly happened last February 6, 2023, well after the announcement of the expansion of EDCA.
Personally, I hope not, but one can’t really discount these Things. China will be China, and just like Malaysia is protecting Sabah, or Taiwan protecting Itu Aba, they will continue to protect their claimed Areas.
And also what now? What will the United States (US) do? We already gave in to their demands to expand EDCA, will they now help us go after that particular CCG Ship? They should do it right away, what are they waiting for, aber?
