China has surpassed Japan in terms of Seapower – US Think Tank

A research organization based in the United States (US) called the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA) has published a report that says China has already surpassed Japan in terms of Maritime Power.

The organization based this on a number of factors, among which are:

* In terms of Surface Combatants (Carriers, Cruisers, Destroyers, Frigates and Corvettes), as of 2020, the China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) has around 125 while the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) only has around 50. The difference in favor of China is more than twice.

* In terms of Offensive Missiles and Vertical Launch System (VLS) Missiles on Surface Combatants, as of 2020 the PLAN has around 3,300 while the JMSDF only has around 1,600. The difference again in favor of China is more than twice.

* The PLAN’s Anti-Ship Missiles also outrange those of the JMSDF, with the PLAN’s YJ-62 (278 km) and YJ-18 (537 km) versus the JMSDF’s Harpoon (124 km) and Type 90 (150 km). The difference in favor of China is up to more than 3 times.

* In terms Submarines, the PLAN has at least 62 as of 2020 while Japan only has 21. The difference in favor of China is almost 3 times.

The US will lose in a Pacific War with China according to War Simulations

According to The Australian news organization, anonymous Defense sources said that in a number of Wargames simulated by the United States’ (US) Pentagon itself, the US would lose a Sea War in Asia with China and would not be able to defend Taiwan.

The deciding factor reportedly are China’s Ballistic Missiles which are numerous and accurate enough and with with enough range to reach destroy every single US Base and Carrier Group operating in the Pacific.

No time to be selling arms to the Philippines – The Hill Article

The Hill, a news website based in Washington D.C. in the United States (US) published an opinion article calling on the US Congress to block the possible sale of American made Attack Helicopters to the Philippines.

Assuming that the US State Department formally notified the US Congress of the possible sale early this month (May 2020), then the 30-day period which they could object to the sale to will end soon.

If they give no objections after that period ends, then the US Congress would’ve given the approval for the possible sale of the Attack Helicopters.

The other organizations that made similar calls to the US Congress included the Human Rights Watch (HRW), Foreign Policy in Focus (FPIF) and the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines’ (ICHRP).

Also, as mentioned by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad just over a week ago, the US might embed into the aircraft they are selling certain restrictions as they see fit.

Unless the US gives us complete access to the Source Codes of these aircraft, then we must be wary of any restrictions they might be embedding into it.

Homemade RPG-2 and Antique MP-40 SMG surrendered to the Army

Just some interesting weapons that were surrendered to the Philippine Army (PA) in Lanao Del Sur recently. Aside from the homemade copy of the RPG-2, there is also what looks like a Schmeisser MP-40 Sub Machine Gun (SMG) used by Nazi German Troops in World War Two (WW2).

I don’t know if that SMG is a just a copy or a real one, if it is a real one it could be somewhat valuable if it is still in decent working condition. As for the homemade RPG-2, notice how it is held together by Plastic Zip Ties.

BrahMos Missile Contract Signing with the Philippines possible by end of 2020 – Anonymous Indian Senior Gov’t Official

In a scoop, the European Security and Defence website quoted an anonymous Senior Indian Government Official as saying that the Contract for the PJ-10 BrahMos missile for the Philippine Arny (PA) could be signed by the end of this year (2020).

Quoting what the anonymous Official said, “The first export contract for the BrahMos medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missiles is likely to be signed with the Philippines authorities by the end of this year. Price negotiations are almost in the final stages…Once international travel is resumed, a joint committee that oversees defence logistics will meet in Manila to discuss the modalities to conclude the deal by the end of the year

The sooner we sign any Military Contract, the better, but if it is going to take that long to be done in this case then no choice but just to wait it out until it happens. Note that previous news reports said the original schedule for the BrahMos Contract Signing was supposed to be April 2020, but was cancelled due to the Corona Virus Diseas 2019 (Covid-19) Pandemic.
