The installation of Spike ER Missiles to the latest batch of Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) Mk III Vessels has been moved to the First Quarter of 2020.

The original schedule for equipping these Vessels with the Spike ER was initially the First Quarter of this Year or 2020, but it was later moved to the Last Quarter of 2020.

Now it has been moved again, could be because of the effect of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pandemic, hopefully this will be the final schedule so we can have more missile-equipped Vessels in our Navy.

Sister Fox asked the Australian Government to denounce the Philippines’ new Anti-Terrorism Law and to cut off Military Aid

Sister Patricia Fox asked her Government in Australia recently to denounce the Philippines’ new Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 and to cut off all Military Aid to the Philipines due to alleged Human Rights abuses by the Military and Police under the Administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Sister Fox served as a Missionary in the Philippines for almost 3 decades before she was deported in 2018 due to her participation in Partisan Political Activity in the past which is a Violation of the Terms and Conditions of her Visa.

The AFP starts Construction of a Desalination Plant in Mavulis Island

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has started construction of a Desalination Plant in Mavulis Island in Batanes capable of desalinating and storing 3,000 Liters of Fresh Water.

Currently the only source of Fresh Water for Mavulis Island is Itbayat Island which requires an 8 hour travel to obtain.

Mavulis Island is the Philippines’ most Northernmost Island and is only 80 km from Taiwan. More than two decades ago, Taiwan reportedly wanted to lease the Island and use it as a Gunnery range for its Military.

Part of the lease proposal was to donate to the Philippines some secondhand Fighter Aircraft, but the lease did not push thru.

AFP Modernization Notes – July 20, 2020

A somewhat confusing article from One News of the effect of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) on the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), but let me try to summarize some of the important points:

* The article talked about the delay in the signing of the Contract for PJ-10 BrahMos Missiles of the Philippine Army (PA) in May 2020, but sources in India reported a week or so ago that the Contract is expected to be signed within this 3rd Quarter of 2020.

American Lawmakers call on the Philippine Government to repeal the 2020 Anti-Terrorism Law

And here we go again. 45 Representatives of the United States (US) Congress sent a Letter to the Philippine Ambassador in the US urging the Philippine Government to repeal the Anti-Terrorism Law of 2020.

This is at least the third internal issue of the Philippines that US Lawmakers have tried to interfere with in the last 12 months. Remember that they had previously called for the release of Senator Leila De Lima from Prison, and then called for the dismissal of the Case filed against the Philippine and American Citizen Maria Ressa.

So these American Lawmakers want to keep interfering with the Philippines’ internal affairs. What will they do then if the Philippine Government will not follow their interferences? Will they impose Sanctions? What kind of Sanctions will they be?

The TPLEX Story – Started by Gloria, delayed by PNoy, completed by Duterte

The Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) has finally been completed so travel time from Manila to Baguio will now be down to 3 hours compared to the previous 6 hours before it was completed.

Now before the fans of PNoy or AbNoy starts saying “Thanks PNoy” again, remember that the Groundbreaking of the Expressway was originally made during the time of former President Gloria Arroyo in 2010.

During the time of AbNoy, he envisioned the project to be completed by 2015, but typical of him that year came and went and it was still nowhere near completion.

The US criticizes China’s claims on the Philippines’ Territories, but will they help us defend those Territories?

The United States (US) recently released a Statement which included criticism of China’s intrusion in to the Philippines’ Territories in the South China Sea (SCS). The US said that:

* China cannot lawfully assert any Maritime Claim in Scarborough Reef or Spratly Islands, or any area that the Tribunal ruled to be in the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) or Continental Shelf;

* China’s harassment of Philippine Fisheries and Offshore Energy Development in those same areas is unlawful, as are any attempt by China to exploit those Resources;

* China has no lawful Territorial or Maritime claim to Mischief Reef or Second Thomas Shoal because both fall under the Philippines’ Sovereign Rights and Jurisdiction.

The big question here though, is that will they now help the Philippines defend those Territories against China? “Criticism” and “Helping to Defend” are two different things, they could criticize but not necessarily help defend our Territories there.

The Philippines needs to make sure especially in light of the fact that early this Year (2020), Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana publicly said that the US told him that Scarborough Shoal is not included in our Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) with the US.

We cannot leave any room for assumption when it comes to the US, we need to have it in writing and released publicly if possible if they are really going to help us defend our claimed Territories or not, or if they are really going to include those claimed Territories in the MDT.

Remember that the US, under the previous Administration of Barrack Obama abandoned former Philippine President Noynoy Aquino’s call for help from them during the standoff with China in Scarborough Shoal in 2012.

I am quoting directly below the part of the Statement that the US released recently where the Philippines is mentioned:

The PRC cannot lawfully assert a maritime claim – including any Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) claims derived from Scarborough Reef and the Spratly Islands – vis-a-vis the Philippines in areas that the Tribunal found to be in the Philippines’ EEZ or on its continental shelf. Beijing’s harassment of Philippine fisheries and offshore energy development within those areas is unlawful, as are any unilateral PRC actions to exploit those resources. In line with the Tribunal’s legally binding decision, the PRC has no lawful territorial or maritime claim to Mischief Reef or Second Thomas Shoal, both of which fall fully under the Philippines’ sovereign rights and jurisdiction, nor does Beijing have any territorial or maritime claims generated from these features.
