Media Personality Jay Sonza posted on his Facebook Account recently about Russian-made Flanker Aircraft for the Philippines (see above, you can access it here). The post has since gone Viral with over 5k Reactions and 200 Shares, and I would just like to post my thoughts about it.
First of all I am not sure if he is just expressing his opinion that the Philippines should get nine Flanker Aircraft, or is he relaying News that the Philippines is planning to get such Aircraft? If he I relaying News, then he did not reveal the Source of his News.
As far as I know, there has been no News lately of the Philippines getting Flanker Aircraft, no Government Official or Defense Industry Official in Russia or the Philippines has talked about it publicly in the past couple of Months.
The last time I remember seeing News of the Flanker being considered by the Philippines was in November 2019, when the Defense Publication Jane’s reported that the Philippine Air Force’s (PAF) Candidates for its Multi-Role Fighter (MRF) Program was down to four choices, and one of them was the Su-30 Flanker.
However, just a couple of Months later in February 2020 the same Publication reported that the choices had been narrowed down further to only two Aircraft, and the Su-30 was not anymore among those two choices.
Anyway, if there really are new developments about the possible acquisition of Flanker Aircraft for the Philippines, I hope that Government and/or Company Officials in Russia and/or the Philippines will reveal more details about it soon.
